THE REFLECTION OF A STREETLIGHT

ON THE WINDOW OF A CAR

Take off my dress
Kick off my shoes
Get to the window by the light of the moon

The glow of the sun on the face of a rock
Mocks me night after night
Perched in the sky, with big crater eyes,
He counts all the pining people

Twenty-nine lovelorn silhouettes
And that’s just on my block
I’d never say in the light of day
How long I’ve been waiting for my love to knock
I’d never say how I hope one day
It’s you pulling in the driveway

There was a time I thought you’d come back
And I’d come out of the dark
I was halfway to the door when my heart hit the floor…

It was just the reflection of a streetlight on the window of a car
The dream of a scene where you come back to me and light me up

Snap out of it

Get up, get out of this

Get yourself outside

A wash of neon signs awakens the tear in my eye

If I weren’t so proud, I’d call your name out loud and let it ring into the night

I’m not one to indulge in the drama of lost love

I’d never say how I hope one day

My love will come back, will come back to stay

There was a time I thought you’d come back , and I’d come out of the dark

I was halfway to the door when my heart hit the floor…

It was just the reflection of a streetlight on the window of a car

The dream of a scene where you come back to me and light me up

The glow of the sun on the face of a rock, a curve across the sky

A glare on the clock, oh hide the time that stops. Come light me up.
